The Story of Ralph. Piano Music: Thirst Quencher For Your Soul – Part 2

Thanks for your patience if you had to wait a day for this sequel;

Piano Music Fan: The Story of Ralph.

If you’re reading this for the first time, you might want to go check out yesterday’s blog post. Either way … we continue …

Ralph was watching me perform on stage in front of 400+ people at a company event. He knew what I charged the company for this entertainment for their event. Ralph was in finance. He thought it was way too much for one guy to make in 3 hours onstage what he made in a week. He was like, seriously? What’s the point?

But there was something in the way the piano music was so … uplifting. It became the center of the room and all the activity within. He couldn’t not tap his foot because of the infectious groove. How could all that music come from one instrument? There were no drums. There was just this guy on the piano with a microphone. Okay the stage looked really good. And it was perfectly placed in the room so that everyone had access to him and could talk to him. But, seriously. One piano and one microphone?

But the way he invited people to make requests and to sing along was smooth and inviting. Ralph didn’t remember the words to the songs but he knew the songs he was playing. Ralph found it really easy to sing along and even tho he had a very good memory, he couldn’t remember all the words.

Almost without noticing Ralph found himself getting closer to the stage. He was singing for the first time in years. Not since his days in high school choir had he felt this good. He was singing even though he wasn’t much of a singer. It was an enjoyable part of his life he had let slip away when he started working in accounting right after graduation form high school.

His happiness spread to his face. He was laughing for the first time in what seemed like an eternity. He started remembering songs he hadn’t thought of in years. And when he asked the piano player about them, he was surprised to learn he knew most of them. When the piano entertainer started playing his favorite songs, he noticed other people knew them and liked them too. Especially this one woman who was across from Ralph on the other side of the piano.

When I play piano at a company event or a fund raiser people ask me all the time, “Don’t you get tired of playing the same old songs all the time?”

I tell them, “No. Not as long as everyone is getting into them.”

If I have the chance, I usually go on to say, “I look in everyone’s eyes to see that sparkle of joy and contentment.”

Privately, I look for that moment when you have forgotten the weight of your world and you let go of the mundane and let the music take over.”

Great Entertainment for Events

I saw that look in Ralph’s eyes on that frosty cold night in February. It took hold before he started moving away from the edge of the convention center wall. I saw music soar through his soul as he came closer to the piano. I saw him relax and forget his old, shy, social habits as he stood shoulder to shoulder with everyone else singing along at the piano.

I saw that timeless sparkle in his eyes when he saw her across the room. So I looked for her. There she was to my left, a simply beautiful brunette in the dazzling necklace. Wow!

She was also looking at Ralph but in a whole new way. He was barely recognizable from his daily personae. ‘Janet’ wasn’t even sure it was Ralph from down the hall from her cubicle in marketing. His tie was loosened. His hair was messy (as usual) but it looked a whole lot cooler when he was dancing. Was this really Ralph?

Without thinking Ralph crossed to the other side of the piano and said something to her that made her laugh. There was that twinkle in their eyes again. Only this time it had grown roots.

They never left each others’ side the rest of the night.

By the end of the night he was standing next to ‘Janet in Marketing’, arm in arm with her and his other co-workers whom he had never talked to very much before.

His cheeks hurt from something he didn’t normally do at a company event or from anything he did much at work – smile that is.

I was asked back to perform the next year. This time we brought a dueling pianos show into the festivities. ‘Twice the Fun’ as we like to say.

Janet and Ralph were still together. They didn’t get married. They were dating tho. He wasn’t sure he wanted to get married or have kids. He was in his 30s now and, honestly, he wasn’t sure how to be a Dad having never received much parenting when he was a kid.

But Janet has two kids from another marriage whom he loves dearly. And they love seeing their Mom be so happy with Ralph. He was a really nice guy. Not loud like most men. Just really quiet – and happy.

Would you like to create memories that last a lifetime with live music entertainment at your next event? Then give me a call at 1 773-527-7417 and I will supply piano music fun that brings everyone together with interactive music and comedy. Seriously!

P.S. Ralph was now the head of the accounting department. This year he eagerly approved the expenditure.

Surprise Party Ideas with Live Music Fun!

We had the opportunity to get down to Kankakee IL twice during the holiday party season this year. It’s fascinating how powerful word of mouth referrals can be for us. We played live music at two events both hosted by the same venue; The Kankakee Country Club. I practically feel like a member now.

The first party was a company event for the local Bank. Small party of employees and spouses. Awards and bonuses were handed out and then the party began. Dance floor was filled al night long.

The second night this month was New Years Eve entertainment with an extra added bonus: Wende’s 50th Birthday Party. Surprise! Except she knew what was going on cuz that’s the kind of woman Wende is. Plus, her husband Rende spilled the beans earlier …. ooohhh say, like …. 9 months earlier. No biggie tho. Their kids were there, her parents and her entire family. We had a DJ after we finished. What a pleasure to be invited to such a fun filled event.

We’ll be back in Kankakee dueling pianos style coming up this February 7 2015 for a fund raiser for the local Chambers of Commerce. As is the case with many local communities, the Kankakee area has had to continue to change with the times. Their local Chamber is no different. They’re still providing jobs for families and helping small businesses grow.

We will be hosted by another stalwart venue perfect for company events; The Knights of Columbus Hall. KC Halls all over the USA are hosting community events such as fund raisers and charity events designed to benefit local churches and businesses.

So come on down to the Kankakee KC Hall this Feb 7 2015 for a first rate night of live music and comedy featuring one of our most popular shows, All American Dueling Pianos. Doors open at 6 PM and you can call the Kankakee County Chamber 815-351-9068

Comedy Music Gets Them Out of Their Shell

“I’ve seen a lot of comedy music shows but you dueling piano guys guys are the best!”

I don’t know how often we have heard that one, but we hear it a lot. People just love us as corporate entertainers. It’s not just the comedy music that everyone likes, it’s the improvisation, the customizing of the material to fit your clients, your event, your evening. It’s powerful. It’s cathartic. And above all it creates memories that last a lifetime.

Not just talking about in Chicago either. The Comedy Music shows that we perform go all over the USA and we hear that everywhere we go. Why?

Can You Get Out Of YOUR Shell?

B’cuz Dan spent 10 years at he Second City where he learned how to improvise and make people laugh — no matter what.

We’ve seen audiences like these two stone faced Ja-Mokes come out of their shells before the night is through. ===>>>

And we will do the same for you at your next company events. We will be the corporate entertainers everyone will be talking about for all the right reasons. Good clean music and comedy. You’ll be saying, “I never thought piano music could be so much fun!” And I’ll just say  “Thanks. We knew you’d love it!”

It’s all in the connection with the audience. No two audiences are the same and when you add the universal language of laughter and music … well you get a highly combustible combination of great laughs and great memories.

It is not about any one thing. It’s not only about the music. It’s not only about the comedy. Comedy Music is two words that can be muddled up in the hands of amateurs.

Our professional showmanship and entertainment GUARANTEES you will get clean music and comedy. Entertainment that is worthy of your company events.

So give us a call and GUARANTEE your clients and guests will get out of their shell at your next company event. 773-527-7417

Life As A Cruise Ship Piano Entertainer

The kids on the cruise ship are hilarious. They are very antsy and energetic. Like, constantly. But mostly right after a meal. They can’t understand how grown ups just want sit back and talk and relax after a good bite. Kids got to get up and run around. They got to do things.

This is especially so when the child has been fed a very steady diet of soft serve ice cream. It can’t be beat. They don’t want anything but french fries and ice cream. Who can blame them? If I didn’t have repercussions from eating like that I would do it all the time. It’s hypnotizing to think about. Donuts and ice cream. No veggies. No rice cakes. Just ice cream. Mmmmmmmm … mesmerizing.

I saw one little tyke this AM who didn’t look any older than 2 years old. I don’t even think he had been walking for more than a month or two. He was holding his Mom’s hand as they were walking along the pool deck to go to the buffet.

It was as if he could smell the ice cream 50 meters away because once he realized where they were going, he just looked up at his Mom as if to say, “Can’t you move any faster Lady?” I mean he was pulling on her limb as if he wasn’t going to stand for the delay in the proceedings and if she didn’t get with the program, he was going to have to release of her of her duties so he could get on over to the ice cream! “Let’s get on with it!” 2 years old.

His poor mother knew exactly what was going on and was not going to release him until he got something nutritious in him first. But she looked utterly defeated. She knew she should not have brought this kid with them on this trip. She thought she was going to catch up on her sleep. She thought she was going to relax. But Nooooo. This 2 year old needed ice cream and immediately after he was going to run around. Probably where danger existed in the form of swimming pools and slippery floors.

I can’t say I miss those days. I’m only working on this cruise ship as an entertainer because our kids are grown up and out of high school now. This is my time to sit back and watch all those parents deal with saying no to ice cream.

Piano Music Making Sick People Feel Good Too

I was playing piano music the other night and I had a guy at the piano bar who sang like a leaky balloon. Either that or he sang like he had just sucked all the helium out of it first. I think the first one is a better description.

He was really hammered and about 20 years older than the people around him. Not that that matters when it comes to playing live music.

Music is the Universal Language. So there are no boundaries or requirements. Just be willing to have some fun and the music will take it from there. This isn’t American Idol here. With that definition, this guy qualified.

These were Not the Only Women Having FUN on the Gig Last Night

Since I do my best to include everyone, his exuberant and passionate singing still made it a little difficult to get anyone to join in with him.

Everyone else was looking at him thinking, “Well, I’m not going to sing along if I got to do it like that guy.”

So they didn’t. Not at first. Then they realized I wasn’t going to be making fun of him all night. I just cracked a few jokes to acknowledge him and moved on. There were plenty of other people there to have some fun with.

Like the one guy who thought he was the leader of the band. He kept giving out vocal cues to the audience. I don’t usually mind. In fact, I welcome that kind of behavior. Keeps things fresh. He had all the qualifications too; a loud, booming voice, the alcohol fueled energy – however, he had none of the rhythm. At least not to lead.

No mind. It was a Sunday night of a 3 day weekend. Most people weren’t going to work the next day. So we were all out having some fun and letting the music take over – at least for a little while.

Coulda been worse. Coulda been a sick day. But in that case, we woulda all fit in anyway.

Live music. Allowing sick people to feel good too. Go figure.

Company events after The Holidays?

What a great idea. Company events don’t always have to be during Christmas season. Holiday parties after New Years are a great idea too. You’re probably going to have better attendance. You can invite more friends. People are going to have more time to show up because they don’t have as many commitments. Plus, you’ll probably get a better rate at your local venues.

Company events with live music is going to provide way more long lasting memories than with a just a DJ. So give us a call. Great piano music, great dueling pianos entertainment and great live music and comedy. Laugh all night long.

Piano Music For Your Company Event Ideas

I was driving to play solo piano music at a company event. The wind was howling but the sun was nowhere in sight. Someone misplaced it long with all the snow.

It was a warm December day and there was still no snow on the ground the entire season. It was as if winter had forgotten about us and left town.

The load in was going to be tough but not as bad as it would have been last year when a good solid two feet of snow had already fallen by this time.

I found that the path was cleared and the hand truck more than up to the task of loading all the sound gear in to the venue. Yet because of the balmy temperatures I had broken into a healthy sweat long before the first note was played.

This was a day time gig. These company event ideas are sometimes a lunch time function. I guess the company that hired me thought this was going to go better during the day when no adult refreshments were expected to be served.

In my professional opinion I thought otherwise. But then again no one asked my professional opinion on this particular subject. So I broke into a series of interactive sing along bits laced with audience participation, team building skills and activities that everyone enjoyed.

Live Music at Company Events makes Things Hum!

By the end of the lunch everyone was gathered around the piano singing and dancing without a care in the world. It was as if there was an invisible veil lifted from the ordinary day to day activities of our work a day world.

Live music does that. Alcohol and night time helps, no doubt. Yet in the end it was good, quality, professional live music and comedy played by a piano player that saved this company event from being another boring holiday party.

Entertainment for events really spices things up considerably when you add great piano music.

Really.

Live music really makes your parties really live.

Dueling Pianos Nebraska

It’s been a whirlwind. Thats for sure. Heading back home after another energizing show last night. Over 1200 people in attendance sing along, dancing along and laughing along. Dueling pianos reaches everybody young and old. This was another corporate event where family of all ages were invited.

Company events like this are perfect with dueling pianos because the kids are up dancing, they were making requests and adoring every moment. We’re not just talking about the young ones. The tweeners and the teens were on board as well. I love the power of the music.

Live music is such a rarity these days except for weddings and the occasional bar gig. Company events are ready to go with live music from dueling pianos this time in Nebraska.

See you next time.
