As a full time, professional piano player for hire, I love living here. Chicago is a great city.
The suburbs are loaded with wonderful opportunities for live music too.
2018 has been a great year in so many ways. The weather has been fantastic! Lots of warmth and only occasional (sometimes heavy ) snowfall.
I love the diversity of this city. I love the diversity of my gigs. This Holiday week was no exception.
Thursday we played a Dueling Pianos gig up in Wisconsin. It was a company party. Company Christmas parties are the best. People really know how to turn out after working so hard all year. turning out to be a regular gig because the response has been overwhelming. Word is getting out about the fun to be had at Gruben’s on Thursday.
Friday we got a call to play a last-minute slot in Central Illinois. All American Dueling Pianos went out to a club date for a Cabaret-esque kind of show. It wasn’t packed. There were only about 100 people there all night. But we got to stretch out a little bit. I got to do some comedy because people were sitting theater style. It sort of forced them to actually pay attention to the punch lines.
My dueling pianos partner for the night got to do a whole bunch of Sinatra and Tony Bennett. Then later the dance floor filled up and we went through all the current hits that got requested.
Saturday Night turned into a long day. I started by playing a 3 hour recording session for some spots I’ve been producing for a multi-media company who needs original music.
Then I headed out to Barrington Hills, IL for a swanky event at some friends’ home. Private house parties are the way to go at this time of year. No need to worry about traffic or parking or bad weather.
Jackie & Tom had me out to their home for their Annual Holiday Bash. It was the third time I’ve been out there play ing solo piano.
When you build your own Piano Bar, There’s no need to let me leave. We partied until close to 3 AM.
Then Sunday afternoon was a surprise 60th Wedding Anniversary in Lake Bluff, IL. VERY low key and the perfect end to a sweet, enjoyable weekend. Playing all the standards from 50s, 60s and beyond was a true test of my versatility.
But it was the joy of seeing old friends and family connect again over lunch and laughs. There was a video montage of photographs playing on the TV. Everyone enjoyed reminiscing. So I played the soundtrack. Very low key and extremely cool to be part of such a celebration.
Plus, our hosts asked me to MC a ‘game show’ for the celebrants.
I must say it is an honor to be able to play music every day of every week. Bringing joy and laughter (and sometimes tears) is a gift I am truly grateful for and I wouldn’t be able to do it without you.
Call to book your private party, company events, and anniversary parties. It would be an honor and a pleasure.
773-527-7417 is the number to call and afterward, you’ll be glad you did.
The Power of Live Music Entertainment
will literally astound you!
Edison said …
“If we all did the things we are capable of doing we would literally astound ourselves.”
The power of music is astounding! I get to see it every night I am playing piano music live in a corporate event or at a club date. I can see it whether I am entertaining in a country club or at a fund raiser.
Yes I can play piano and yes I can sing. But the music isn’t mine. It belongs to all of us and my job is to provide the vehicle for you to climb in and take a ride;
A Magic Carpet Ride.
Ride Sally Ride.
Baby You Can Drive My Car.
The tricky part is letting you know you need it before you know you want it.
So I am here to tell you want it. You need it. You crave live music entertainment and you’re going to be talking about what an astounding time you had last night tomorrow morning and for the rest of your life.
You will remember your event for years to come and maybe even beyond. It won’t because of the bean dip. It won’t be that really funny story Uncle Funky tells every party ever year every time you get guys get together.
It’s going to be the live music you shared. It’s going to be the dancing and the singing and the great memories you’ve created together with me behind the piano or with my band.
I’m not making this up. The music is telling you this is true.
You know how I know?
Let me ask you a question:
Do you remember where you were when you got your first kiss?
Of course you do.
Now what was your favorite song from that time period?
See? You knew instantly.
That’s the power of music.
That song (or songs) that was playing on the radio or on the 8 track player in the car you were in at the time, ingrained your emotional happiness. It became the soundtrack to your life.
That’s the power of music.
It transcends everything that was going on at the time. You don’t remember what you ate for breakfast the morning of your first kiss. But you remember the song that was your favorite.
So call me and let’s create some more great memories with live music entertainment.
I am Dan and I am the PianoMan and I would be honored if you would let me create those moments with you and your friends and family that will last a lifetime.
Live Music Entertainment is Astounding!
So I think I’m finally figuring out how to use Priceline.com to my advantage. Since I travel so much as a piano player for hire, I figured it’s worth making it work for me and our family budget.
But I’m wondering something …
Who the hell picks these paintings?
Not that they’re bad or anything. I’m just kind of wondering cuz they are exceptionally non-descript.
There’s nothing about them that make you go, “Oh. That’s really cool. I think I should get some for my collection. Let me call my art broker and see if he can cut me a deal on a bulk purchase.”
And what the hell is with this smell?
These NON-SMOKING rooms smell all perfumey. And not that good kind of perfumey, like wow I need some of this funk in my house right now too. It’ll go great with those paintings I just bought.
I would rather have the old stale cigarette smoke from yesteryear.
No. Wait. I wouldn’t. That was REALLY disgusting.
But this new smell seems like it’s designed to be cat house friendly or something. I can hear the voice over on the radio spot: “It smells like a brothel, but bring the kids anyway. It’s safe and won’t deform their growth. Plus, it’ll create all kinds of fresh and special memories you can share for a lifetime.”
Oh well. The price was right. Here’s to shopping on the Internet.
Bye for now.
I don’t know if Stevie Wonder is the best piano player or not …. That’s not for me to decide …. but …
I had a really awesome day today.
I didn’t know if it was all going to work out or not. But it did and on the way home with a big smile on my face from a very complicated tech rehearsal for a corporate event. I wasn’t sure what to do. I was not in control of things. I was supposed to be the leader. I hate when that happens. I got all worried about how I looked; to the client, to the other musicians.
What I did is what I was supposed to do. Let the people I had hired to do their jobs. The show was written. The songs were arranged. But the technical stuff was not my area of expertise. That’s why we hire really good people for these corporate event entertainment packages. Entertainment for events is a lot like riding a bicycle wearing a blindfold. You know where you’re going to go. You just don’t what might be in your way.
This is why we have tech rehearsals. To find out what’s in our way.
It all turned to be a sweet and successful rehearsal for a corporate seminar that is going to be massively successful. coming up later this week …
and on my way home after the rehearsal …
I heard this Stevie Wonder song very clearly in my head …
This was the tune Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing –Stevie Wonder
Thanks for playing along. Feel free to dance around like nobody is watching. I won’t tell.
